Holiday Lighting Installation in Bedford and Smith Mountain Lake, VA

Lakefront, farmhouse, and in-town displays, designed to the property and installed without a hole

Bedford and Smith Mountain Lake are two different holiday seasons on one route. In town it is brick storefronts, Centertown, and homes with front porches that were built for a wreath. At the lake it is big elevations facing the water, long docks, and mature hardwoods that frame the whole property. We design for both, cut every strand to the house, hang it with clips and nothing else, and take it down after the holidays so you never climb a ladder.

The mild season is a gift. Use it.

Northern lighting companies spend the fall racing a snow forecast. We do not. Central Virginia gets a cold snap and the occasional ice event, but the fall install season around Bedford and the lake stays open and workable, which means we can take the time to design a display properly, schedule it on a date that works for you, and still have it lit before the first party of the season. The calendar still fills from the front, so the homeowners who reach out in late summer or early fall choose their dates. But nobody here is hanging lights in a blizzard.

Lakefront displays at Smith Mountain Lake

A Smith Mountain Lake house has two fronts: the one you see from the road and the one you see from the water, and at the holidays the water side is usually the one that matters. Big elevations, walls of glass, decks stacked two and three high, and a dock that is part of the property. We design the lake side for long sightlines, a clean warm-white roofline that reads from across the cove, wrapped trunks on the hardwoods that frame the house, and lit railings on the deck and dock where it suits. The road side gets the entry, the garage, and the drive.

Lake wind is real, especially on the points and the open stretches around Moneta and Huddleston, so we tighten the clip spacing on water-facing runs and weather-seal every connection. The display is built to still look right on New Year's Eve.

In-town Bedford and the farmhouses between

Bedford itself does the holidays the traditional way: a wreath on the door, garland on the porch, warm white along the roofline, a lit tree in the yard. The brick homes near Centertown and the older neighborhoods off Main Street suit that look, and we design to it. Between town and the lake are the farmhouses and newer builds on acreage, many with standing-seam metal roofs and long gravel drives through the trees. Those get a display that starts at the road: low accent light along the drive, a few wrapped trunks, and the house lit at the end of it.

Clips only, on metal, shingle, brick, and wood

Standing-seam metal roofs are common out here, and you cannot clip into them, drill into them, or hang anything on them. Our roofline strands ride clips on the fascia or the gutter lip beneath the drip edge, so the metal is never touched. On asphalt shingle we use shingle clips under the tab. On brick and stone we stay out of the masonry and work from the trim. Trunk wraps are tied, not tacked. Garland on a porch post is secured with ties that come off clean. We do not drill, nail, screw, or staple into anything, and when the display comes down there is nothing to patch.

  • On-site measurement and design at your property, road side and water side
  • Custom-cut, commercial-grade LED roofline lighting in warm white, cool white, or color
  • Wreaths, garland, porch and column wraps, tree wraps, and drive accent lighting as the design calls for
  • Installation by our crew with timers set to local sunset and every connection sealed
  • In-season service if a section goes dark, at no additional charge
  • Takedown after the holidays on our ladders and schedule
  • Labeled storage so next season is a re-hang of the same design, with any additions

Takedown, storage, and next year

After the holidays our crews pull the display, coil and label every strand and wrap with your name, and store it until next fall. The following season is a re-hang of the same design with any additions you want: another tree along the drive, the dock railing, the guest house. Most Bedford and lake clients keep the base plan for years and build on it.

If you would rather have the house lit every evening of the year, with the holiday look saved as a scene in an app, see our permanent lighting page. Many lake homes run a permanent roofline and add seasonal tree wraps and garland in December. We install both and design them together.

Warm white, color, and what the lake tends to do

Across the coves the houses that look right from the water share a restraint: a clean warm-white roofline, wrapped trunks on the two or three hardwoods that frame the house, and a lit dock railing. The water does the rest. In town, Bedford leans classic, with garland and a wreath carrying the porch. Color and animated accents show up more on the newer builds and the family houses on acreage, and we are glad to design them when that is what you want. None of it is a rule. The point of measuring and designing at your property is that the display belongs to the house, not to a package.
