Holiday & Permanent Lighting in Bedford & Smith Mountain Lake

Lake properties get looked at from two directions and are often empty half the year. Both facts change how we design and how we set up the controls.

Serving Bedford & Smith Mountain Lake

Drive time from our Lynchburg base: roughly 30-45 minutes southwest, depending on where you are on the lake. Bedford and the Smith Mountain Lake shoreline are on our regular route and get scheduled coverage through install season.

Lake houses have two front elevations, and most plans only light one. A Smith Mountain Lake property is seen from the water and from the road, and those are genuinely different elevations with different sightlines. A plan that lights only the street side leaves the side your guests on the dock, your neighbors across the cove, and everyone on the water actually sees completely dark. We walk both on the design visit and design them together.

Second homes and part-time occupancy. A meaningful share of lake properties are not lived in year-round, and that changes the setup: app control or timers so the house lights on a schedule whether you are there or not, and an access arrangement so we can install, service, and take down without you driving out. If you are only up on weekends, a Saturday ladder job is the last thing you should be doing.

Docks, boathouses, and the shoreline. Boathouses, dock lighting, stairs down the grade, and terrace and patio work are normal parts of a lake plan. On a sloped shoreline lot, the stair and path lighting is also a genuine safety item, not just an aesthetic one.

Water exposure and wind. An elevation facing open water gets more weather than a sheltered one. Tighter clip spacing on exposed elevations, runs cut to minimize unsupported spans, and sealed connections throughout.

Long, civilized install season. October through early December in good weather; fast takedown.

Takedown and storage included.

Permanent lighting on a lake property

This is one of the strongest permanent cases in the territory, and there are four reasons.

Two elevations, twelve months. A permanent system keeps both the lake side and the street side lit and defined year-round, on both sides, rather than for six weeks.

Part-time occupancy. App control means the property lights on a schedule whether you are there or not - it looks lived-in, it is findable at night, and the stairs and paths are lit for whoever arrives. No trip required to flip a switch.

You use the outside, a lot. Virginia's mild climate plus a lake means terraces, patios, and docks get used spring through late fall. Permanent lighting serves that use every evening, which is the actual value here - the holiday capability is a bonus.

Nobody on a lakefront roof, and nobody on lake stairs with a ladder. On a sloped shoreline lot with grade changes, eliminating the annual install and takedown is a real safety argument.
